Finding happiness though mindfulness

April 13, 2017

Happiness is something we all strive for. But sometimes it can be hard to find. Whether you’re caught up in the hustle of daily life, or finding it tough to forget the latest headline, happiness can sometimes seem out of reach.

One of the ways psychologist Dr. Samantha Goldwater-Adler uses to find happiness in her own life is to practice something called mindfulness.

“Mindfulness is a meditation practice originating in the Buddhist tradition. It involves nonjudgmental awareness and acceptance of the present moment,” she said. Not only will making that effort to be present help you appreciate the now even more, it has several benefits that can help you up your happiness.

“It’s been associated with a wide range of mental and physical health benefits, including improved mood, pain management, and immune response, as well as decreased anxiety, depression and stress,” Goldwater-Adler said.

Leona’s series on mindfulness continues here with Part 2, and here with Part 3.
